Letter from the Chair of the Board of Yinghua Academy


Welcome from the Board of Yinghua Academy! We are pleased that you are looking through our website to learn more about Yinghua Academy.

Yinghua Academy is a charter public school. This means that we are an independent public school that is governed by a board of directors. The purpose of the board is to oversee the operation of the school and to develop and ensure the implementation of the vision and mission of the school. As you may have seen already on our website, our basic goal is to provide an excellent school at which all students will develop near-native fluency in Mandarin and at which all students will succeed academically.

At present we have 10 board members, including me. By law we are required to have a fully-elected board by the end of our third year of operation, which is June 30, 2009. The board adopted a plan which provides for a smooth transition from the founding board to a fully-elected board, starting with the election of three board members in June 2007. Then four board members were elected in June 2008. Three board members will be elected in June 2009; and then we will have a fully-elected. Parents, staff, and community members, including members of the founding board, can run for seats on the Yinghua Academy Board.

As you will see from our bios, we have a very strong board. Our board is composed of accomplished people, each of whom represents one or more of the following constituencies: person of Chinese heritage, educator, business person, and parent of a Yinghua Academy student.

Our board meets approximately every three weeks. The minutes of our board meetings are posted on our website as soon as they have been approved by the board. The dates of future board meetings are also posted.
