Yinghua Academy's program has three components:
- Immersion in Mandarin Chinese
- Rigorous Academic Content in All Subjects
- Nurturing and Supportive School Culture
Our curriculum, developed in consultation with the University of Minnesota and the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, D.C., ensures the most effective research-based immersion education available.
Overall, the goal of Yinghua Academy is to help our students to:
- Do well in all academic subjects, including English Language Arts;
- Perform well on state-mandated standardized tests administered in English;
- Be able to speak, read, and write in Mandarin Chinese appropriate to their age level and instruction model;
- Acquire an acute cultural understanding of China and other countries of the world for more effective participation as global citizens.
During the 2009-2010 school year, grades kindergarten through fourth grade will be taught primarily in Mandarin Chinese. English Language Arts instruction begins daily in second grade and some additional subjects are taught in English starting in fourth grade. During the 2009-2010 school year, fifth and sixth grade students are taught primarily in English with 45-60 minutes of Chinese instruction daily.
