Conservatory of Music
We offer three terms of after-school private music lessons taught by professional musicians at Yinghua Academy. Yinghua Academy Conservatory of Music (YACM) offers lessons for Western and Chinese instruments: piano, viola, violin, cello, upright bass, dizi, and hulusi. Families agree to provide the instrument (except for piano) and purchase the music books requested by the instructor. Please check out the teacher biographies here before registering.
Lessons are only offered during Aftercare hours. In general music lessons are offered M-F from 4:00-5:30, and last 30 minutes. All Music of Conservatory students are encouraged to perform in one of the end-of-year Spring Recitals. The recitals will be on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Students automatically rollover on the same day, times, and teacher, from one term onto the next for the entire school year unless you notify the Extended Learning Office at aftercare@yinghuaacademy.org that you’d like to cancel lessons for the next term.
YACM Details
- Kindergarten students are able to register for music lessons in Term II and III. Term I is restricted from Kindergarteners while they adjust to their classes and new routines.
- Term I Student registration opens online in August, and registration is for a full school year of music lessons. Typically, classes fall into three eight-week terms per school year with payment due at the start of each session.
- When you are registered for Music Lessons your student will also be in Aftercare for the day of their music lessons; this ensures they are supervised before and after their lesson until they are picked up by 6 p.m. Their Aftercare enrollment is only for the day and duration of their specific music lesson.
- You can enroll in all music lessons through Infinite Campus, where you’ll find comprehensive details about each class. For payment instructions, please use this link. Additionally, these video tutorials are available to guide you through the payment process on Infinite Campus. Please note that full payment is due upon registration.
- On lesson days, set Silent Dismissal to “Aftercare + classes/music lessons”: by setting your student’s Silent Dismissal correctly you will avoid extra Aftercare fees.
- To discontinue lessons, email the Extended Learning Office before the beginning of a new term.
- HWF and Music Lesson registration: If it is important to you that your student(s) completes their homework in Aftercare , please avoid registering them for music lessons classes that go from 4-5pm, because this is the same time as Homework First. There are no staff available to sit and assist children with homework after 5pm, but there is almost always the option available for Aftercare + music lessons/classes students to sit in the cafeteria, after their music lesson, and do homework on their own until the end of Aftercare at 6 p.m.
- Lesson Fees: $40 for every 30-minute music lesson plus $14 discounted Aftercare fee gives you $54 total for one 30-minute music lesson and Aftercare. Full payment is due before your student’s first lesson. Without payment by the due date your student will lose their lesson spot.
- Pending music lesson teacher approval, you may register your student for two 30-minute lessons on the same day, if available, making a 60-minute lesson. Your fee would then be $94/per music lesson including the discounted Aftercare fee.
- The preferable way to pay for Music Lessons is Infinite Campus and you have the choice to pay by cheque or credit card.
- Registration and Payment go hand-in-hand. All music lesson fees for Term I are due immediately when signed up on Infinite Campus.
- ROLLOVER POLICY: Your student’s Conservatory of Music registration automatically rolls over from one term to the next; during a given school year. If you are continuing, do not re-register your student for the next term. You must email the Extended Learning Office notifying them if you wish to cancel your student’s rollover from one term to the next. However, music lesson registrations do not rollover from one school year into the next. Each new school year you will need to register your student for music lessons.
- CANCELLATION POLICY: A $50 cancellation fee applies if your student drops a music lesson after registration has closed but before the lessons begin. If your student drops the lesson during the term, you will forfeit a refund of any kind and you will lose your spot for the next term.
- MAKE-UP POLICY: If needed, your student is allotted one make-up lesson per term. Advance notice of 24 hours is preferred and much appreciated.
- SNOW DAY/UNEXPECTED SCHOOL CLOSURE POLICY: Lessons missed due to unexpected school closure may be reimbursed. Music teachers will try to provide makeup days for weather-related missed lessons. Yinghua will issue a refund if the missed lesson cannot be rescheduled.
